The Magnolia Hotshots sent a strong message of how good they are.

A strong start led to a good ending as the Hotshots went on to put away Terrafirma Dyip by 27 points, 114-87, on Wednesday in the 2021 Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup before a big crowd at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Mike  Harris showed the way for the Hotshots, knocking 30 points and 15 rebounds.

“We wanted to start big, just in the bubble before. And we wanted to send a message right away. At least naging maganda,” said Magnolia coach Chito Victolero.

The Hotshots finally settled down with their game in the second period, with Calvin Abueva providing leadership.

Abueva scored 10 of his 17 points during an initial run that allowed the Hotshots to take command of the game with a 46-35 halftime spread.

With the game in control in the third period, Harris and Ian Sangalang took over the Hotshots’ offense, joining up for 15 points as they widened their edge to 17, 81-64.

Antonio Hester shot 21 points for Dyip, who tumbled to their second setback in three matches.

Harris shot 10 points in the final period and as the Hotshots kept their huge lead.
