Medical Depot, FSD Makati smash FilBasket foes

Medical Depot and FSD Makati-Army trounced their opponents Friday in the FilBasket Subic Championship at the Subic gym.

Medical Depot routed Burlington EOG Sports, 94-80, while FSD Makati Army banked on a second-quarter assault to thrash Muntinlupa Defenders, 103-89.

Kevin Villafranca posted 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Simon Camacho added 15 points and 10 boards for Medical Depot, who improved to 5-4 and tied with Burlington for fifth place.

It was also Medical Depot’s second straight win after bowing to Pasig Sta. Lucia on Tuesday.

Patrick Cabahug also paced Medical Depot with 18 points as they pulled away from a 41-all halftime deadlock to a 69-61 lead at the end of the third.

Byron Villarias and James Castro had 16 and 11 points for Burlington, who failed to capitalize on its defense despite outrebounding Medical Depot, 51-41.

Meanwhile, Jess Villahermosa spearheaded FSD Makati-Army with 21 points and eight assists to deal Muntinlupa its ninth consecutive defeat.

Makati whipped up a second-quarter storm to recover from a 25-20 first-quarter deficit and take a 52-42 lead at the half, dictating the tempo for good.

Jan Colina also stepped up for Makati with 13 points, while Helino Francisco and Ric Gallardo chipped in 12 and 10 points.

Makati’s win overshadowed the efforts of Thomas Torres, who sizzled for 36 points highlighted by five triples while adding eight rebounds, eight assists, and four steals.
