Singapore will host two memorable basketball events in September, with the most global FIBA Intercontinental Cup tournament in history and the FIBA Hall of Fame Class of 2024 enshrinement ceremony both taking place in the island country.

The 34th edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup will be played on Sept. 12-15 in Singapore Sports Hub and will feature clubs from all five FIBA regions for the first ever time.

The two groups of FIBA Intercontinental Cup 2024 comprise:

Group A: Unicaja; Petro de Luanda; Al Riyadi

Group B: Quimsa; NBA G League United; Tasmania JackJumpers

Each team will face their group opponents in a round-robin format and the two group winners will square off in the Final, on September 15, to determine the 2024 champions.

The two group runners-up will clash in the 3rd-place Game while the teams that finish third in their respective groups will play for fifth place overall.

On September 14, the eve of the big Final, the induction ceremony for the FIBA Hall of Fame Class of 2024 will also take place in Singapore, in another first for the competition that underlines the global character of the September event.

USA’s Reggie Miller and Serbia’s Predrag Stojakovic headline the 2024 inductees, which also include fellow former players Miao Lijie of China, Danira Nakic-Bilic of Croatia, Kirk Samuel Penney of New Zealand, Romain Sato of Central African Republic, Skaidrite Smildzina-Budovska of Latvia and Italian-American coach Dan Peterson.

“The FIBA Intercontinental Cup is a unique global experience in club basketball, but the 34th edition will set a remarkable milestone in basketball history,” commented FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis.

“It’s only fitting that Singapore, which ushered in the new era of the competition last year, will also provide the stage for its expansion to Oceania and for the FIBA Hall of Fame induction ceremony,” Mr. Zagklis added.

“We are pleased to further our partnership with FIBA to grow our local sports ecosystem and reinforce Singapore’s position as a hub for hosting international sporting events such as the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup and FIBA Intercontinental Cup,” said Roy Teo, Chief of Industry Development, Technology & Innovation, Sport Singapore.

The latest team to punch their ticket to FIBA Intercontinental Cup 2024 was Lebanon’s Al Riyadi, who will represent Asia by virtue of winning the inaugural Basketball Champions League Asia title, on Saturday.

For the first time ever, a club from Oceania will take part in the FIBA Intercontinental Cup, and that honor was bestowed on Tasmania JackJumpers, the 2024 champions of the NBL.

Petro de Luanda from Angola, the first sub-Saharan African team to win the Basketball Africa League, which is operated in partnership between FIBA and the NBA; Basketball Champions League Americas champions Quimsa (Argentina); Basketball Champions League Europe champions Unicaja (Spain) and NBA G League United (USA), representing the NBA G League, are the other four contenders.
