Greenies, Red Cubs crowned cage champs

SBP-Passerelle’s defending SBP division champion, La Salle Greenhills, remained undefeated in three consecutive seasons after winning against sister school La Salle Santiago-Zobel, at the 32nd SBP-Passerelle twin tournament NCR finals. 

In the Passerelle division, San Beda College was crowned NCR champion after an equally fierce game against the Nazareth School of National University.

In the SBP division, La Salle greenies dominated the game, scoring a whopping 17-5 in the first quarter, 31-9 in second and 45-12 in third. The Zobel junior archers did only a little better in the last quarter for a score of 50-22. Lorenzo Bryan Competente was awarded Most Valuable Player in this division.

In the Passerelle division championship, the SBC Red Cubs and NSNU Bullpups took turns outscoring each other. 

The Red Cubs gained the advantage in the first through several three-pointers, 16-4, but the Bullpups recovered in the second quarter and surpassed their opponent for a score of 27-30.

SBC narrowed the gap in the third quarter, 46-45, before finally winning with a two-point lead, 63-61, in the final period to bag the NCR Passerelle division championship.

Anfernee Zachary Estacio was named MVP.

La Salle Greenhills and San Beda College will represent NCR in the national finals, competing against regional winners from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Ateneo de Manila University was third, while San Sebastian College-Recoletos placed fourth in the SBP division NCR finals. Third place in the Passerelle division was La Salle Greenhills while fourth placer was Ateneo de Manila University.

 Giving high importance to fair play and discipline, BEST Center is also awarding the much-coveted Sportsmanship Award to deserving schools not only for the exemplary skills showed by the students in playing basketball but also for good behavior among parents, coaches and school officials. This year for NCR, the award was given to Marist School in the SBP division while no winner was announced in the Passerelle division.

Organized by the country’s premier sports clinic, Basketball Efficiency Scientific Training Center, the 32nd SBP-Passerelle Twin Tournament is supported by MILO, in cooperation with Rain or Shine Elasto Paints, Chris Sports, and SKLZ. BEST Center provides a venue for young cagers to apply what they learned in basketball training and showcase their skills.

 BEST Center is a Hall of Famer of the Philippine Sportswriters Association for Grassroots Development and the only corporate recipient of the Olympism Award from the Philippine Olympic Committee.
