The Maharlika Football Club is a club team that’s driven by passion for the sport.

Former Philippine Azkals’ booter Anton del Rosario said this after forming a team that is now set to see action in the coming Philippine Football League.

The core of the team is led by former national booters Misagh Bahadoran Jerry Barbaso, and David Basa.

The passion of his former teammates in the Philippine Azkals will be the heart and soul of the squad, Del Rosario believes.

“It shows their love for the sport and they want to prove something,” said del Rosario during virtual press conference yesterday on Zoom.

Del Rosario, who retired from the national squad back in 2014, said he formed the team following a conversation with PFL tournament director Coco Torre, who told him that the league needs more entries.

Veteran national team players, like Joaco Cañas and Cameroonian Serge Kaole have also showed interest, and have signed.

Brazilian-Japanese actor and model Daniel Matsuanga will also be around.

For now, members of the squad will play pro bono for the squad and with wages still being discussed.

The team is now undergoing training sessions at the Philippine Football Federation National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

Roxy Dorlas is the head coach of the team, while Choy Calungsod will serve as general manager of the new club.
