Six exceptional Filipino runners are set to represent the Philippines at the Jubilee Edition and 30th Anniversary of the Run Rome the Marathon, happening on March 16, 2025.
This dynamic group brings a blend of experience, energy, and inspiration, ready to conquer the race and proudly showcase Filipino talent on the global stage.
Leading this remarkable team is JC Santa Teresa, a 60-year-old marathon pacer based in the United States. With a career spanning over 400 marathons, including pacing gigs in all 50 U. states, JC is celebrated for his infectious joy and humor that uplift runners of all ages.

Despite his age, his energy remains boundless, making him a beloved figure in the running
Joining JC is Jeanette Santa Teresa, a seasoned marathon pacer with more than 200 marathons under her belt.
Balancing her roles as a mother and professional, Jeanette’s unwavering stamina and leadership have made her an inspiration to many. She has passed on her passion for running to her daughters, Kara and Cathleen, creating a legacy of strength and dedication.
Kara Santa Teresa continues her parents’ legacy as a marathon pacer, focusing on teamwork and motivation. With experience in prestigious events like the Major Marathons, she ensures that runners in her pacing group feel both supported and inspired.
Her sister, Cathleen Santa Teresa, brings equal passion and energy to marathon pacing. A rising star since her debut in endurance sports in 2023, Cathleen has already participated in major races, including the London and New York Marathons.
Her dedication and uplifting spirit foster a strong sense of community among runners.
Known as Caput Mundi—the Capital of the World—Rome offers a marathon experience unlike any other. Its 42.195-kilometer course is steeped in art, history, and tradition, winding through cobblestone streets once traversed by Roman gladiators in battered sandals.
Today, these same streets welcome hundreds of thousands of runners from across the globe.
As Italy’s fastest marathon in history, the Rome Marathon has become a world-class event, with recent editions drawing participants from over 118 countries.
Its flat and fast course is ideal for runners aiming to set new personal records while passing iconic monuments and historical landmarks of the Eternal City.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Rome Marathon, a milestone that will see 30,000 runners—dubbed “modern gladiators”—take on the challenge.
Participants can choose from the full 42-kilometer marathon, a relay race, or a Fun Run through Rome’s breathtaking historic sites. Filipino runners from around the globe will also join the celebration, adding their energy and passion to this momentous occasion.
ENDURANCE LEGEND
The team also includes Rolando Espina, a multi-medalist ultrarunner renowned for his extraordinary endurance.
From conquering the grueling 680-km Negros Loop to setting records in the 250-km Manila to Baguio and winning the Bataan Death March,
Rolando’s achievements are unparalleled. Despite his competitive accolades, he finds joy in pacing, guiding runners with his calm and experienced approach.
Rounding out the team is Miguel Garcia, a dynamic athlete originally from Albay, Philippines, now based in Canada. With a background in rowing, rock climbing, dragon boat racing, and cycling, Miguel is a versatile competitor.
His experience in major triathlons, such as the Escape from Alcatraz, and his motivational pacing techniques make him an invaluable member of the team.
“As a pacer, I encourage runners to focus on their breathing and form. I provide updates on pace, distance, and time, always maintaining consistency and offering positive affirmations like, ‘You’re doing great,’ ‘You’ve got this,’ and ‘Stay strong—we’re almost there,’” Miguel shares.
