EMMA Malabuyo’s consistent scores in the last three rotations and Jordan Chiles’ perfect 10 in her final execution helped carry the top-seeded and fifth-ranked University of California-Los Angeles Bruins to a 9-0 sweep of Big Ten Conference Gymnastics Championships.

It was the Bruins’ first crown in their first year in the conference after scoring 198.450 and beating Michigan State and two other teams at Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The Bruins outscored Michigan State in the fourth and final rotation off Chiles’ perfect 10 in the floor exercises.

Michigan State, which led in the first three rounds, got second (198.150), with Minnesota (197.425) and Michigan (197.325) in third and fourth.

For her effort, Malabuyo was among seven UCLA gymnasts  named to the 2025 Big Ten Women’s Gymnastics All-Championships Team.

Malabuyo had a 9.9 in the uneven bars in the second rotation, a 9.95 in the balance beam in the third, and another 9.95 in the floor in the fourth.

So far, the Bruins became the first UCLA team ever to win both the regular season and conference championship titles in the Big Ten.

Their score of 198.450 is the highest team score in Big Ten Championship history and the Bruins’ fourth-highest score in school program.

Aside from the team honors, three Bruins took home individual titles, with Chae Campbell snaring the all-around crown with a career-high-tying score of 39.725.

Chiles and Brooklyn Moors each scored perfect 10.0s in the floor exercise to share the plum, while Ciena Alipio also notched a perfect 10.0 to tie for first in the beam.

The perfect 10s for Moors and Alipio were the first of their career, and Chiles’ 10 was her third this season and 11th of her career, according to the Bruins’ statement on social media.

The Bruins made history by becoming the first Big Ten team with three different perfect 10 scorers in the same meet.

Coach Janelle McDonald, who helped coach Malabuyo at the Paris Olympics, was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year.
