Lady Altas battle SSC belles, eye 6th straight win

THE Perpetual Help Lady Altas aim for their sixth consecutive win as they face the Lady Stags of San Sebastian College-Recoletos on Thursday, 11 a.m. in the NCAA Season 100 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the Jose Rizal University Gym in Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City.

Coach Sandy Rieta’s Lady Altas, currently leading the league with a perfect 5-0 record, will once again rely on their core players to secure their sixth victory when they take on the Lady Stags, who hold a 3-1 record.

Shaila Omipon, Winnie Bedaña, Daizerlyn Uy, Tagaytay City native Pauline Reyes, Camille Bustamante, rookie Jemalyn Menor, libero Marina Andal, libero Joanna Denise Lozano, and setter Fianne Ariola are expected to showcase their speed and powerful spikes for Perpetual.

The Las Piñas-based team secured its fifth straight win in their last match, defeating the Emilio Aguinaldo College Lady Generals in three sets (25-18, 26-24, 28-26).

Bedaña led the scoring with a combined 34 points, followed by Uy with 12 points and Omipon with 10 points.

Meanwhile, the defending champion Altas Spikers will seek their fifth win against the Stags’ men’s volleyball team at 9 a.m.

The EAC Lady Generals (1-4) and the Letran Lady Knights (4-0) will compete at 1 p.m.

Rieta hopes to maintain their strong form as they approach the Final Four.

The Lady Altas last won the championship in 2014, achieving a Grand Slam victory, led by Royce Tubino, April Sartin, Sandy Delos Santos, Jane Diaz, and Jheck Dionela.
