Team Falcons defeated ONIC PH in a battle of champions during Week 2 of the MPL Philippines Season 15, asserting dominance in a matchup between past and present titleholders.
Team Falcons controlled the pace for much of the series, leveraging superior macro play and teamfight execution to dismantle ONIC PH. The M5 champion dictated the tempo, capitalizing on key engagements to secure victory in the highly anticipated clash.
Despite the first game having a slow pace, FLCN pulled ONIC all over the map to force teamfight around the objectives.
Team Falcons was about to get away with the first game win but unfortunately blew their attack on the ONIC’s base around the 16-minute mark of the game. With K1ngkong’s heroics, ONIC cleaned up the rest of FLCN to snatch the victory.
However, Team Falcons wasn’t fazed by its earlier blunder, as they decisively punished ONIC’s mistakes to snowball their way into a reverse sweep.
K1ngkong’s Fanny was a menace for the Falcons in game 1, as he found crucial picks and saves in Game 1 to finish with a 7-2-10 KDA record. However, SuperMarco stepped up for the Falcons, as he bounced back from their Game 1 mishap with a superb 24-11-13 Granger performance in their next two games to grip the victory.
“Siguro hindi naman kasi buong team (ONIC PH) nag-perform sila ng maganda kaso mas naging better lang kami ngayon.”, SuperMarco on Kelra’s quiet series against them.
Team Falcons now have a 2-1 record to climb up to third in the standings, as ONIC PH slides down to fourth with 1-2.
With their very close win against last season’s last placer TNC Pro Team, followed by back-to-back losses against other heavy competition such as Aurora Gaming and Team Falcons, K1ngkong and Kelra were asked about what seems to be ONIC’s struggles at the moment.
“”Bukod sa mga pagkukulang namin inside the game, sadyang gumaling lang talaga halos lahat din.”, K1ngkong replied.
“Para sa akin, yun din. Yung lahat ng teams ngayong season, nag-evolve din. Hindi tulad nung last season, kumbaga yung kalaban namin ngayon parang ONIC din.” – Kelra
On a positive note, ONIC PH remains unshaken despite its slow start.
“We might look malungkot ngayon, frustrated, pero alam naming kaya namin. We just have to regroup and make sure na we’re mentally tough.”, coach Ynot answered.
“We know na we still have 100% confidence na kaya namin manalo”.
