THE Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP) will organize the first Philippine University Archery League (PUAL) at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) oval field, in Sta. Mesa, Manila on November 23 and 24.
FESSAP’s hosting comes on the heels of the Philippines’ successful participation in the 2nd Asian University Archery Championship recently held in the Taipei City Gymnasium, Taipei City, Taiwan.
PUP president, Dr. Manuel M. Muhi has approved FESSAP’s request to host the 1st PUAL, formerly known as the National Students Archery Championship, held several times in Baguio City and Manila alternately.
“We would like to congratulate Dr. Muhi, who will be serving his second term as university president of PUP,” said FESSAP president Edwin C. Fabro.
Christian D. Tan, FESSAP honorary vice president, leads the organizing committee as PUAL chairman.
The FESSAP Executive Committee approved PUAL’s chairmanship through the confirmation of Fabro, together with the Chairman of the Board, Alvin Tai Lian.
PUAL working committee members are Robert Milton Calo, Cecille Sarmiento, Loren Balaoing, Allan Soria, Albert Andaya Jr., Romulo Raytos, Xyrille Kate Delima, and John Fred Dela Torre.
The committee is in constant coordination with PUP Athletic Director Prof. Romulo B. Hubbard.
Represented by PUP this year in the 2nd Asian University Archery Championship, the school is one of the leading teams joining the league.
The 1st Asian University Archery Championship was held in Selangor, Malaysia in 2019, with University of Baguio representing the Philippines.
The 1st PUAL will be a national qualifying tournament to the 32nd World University Games in Germany in July, 2025.
Participating FESSAP regular member universities are PUP, Technological University of the Philippines, Tarlac Agricultural University, Tarlac State University, Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology, National University, University of Baguio, University of the Cordilleras, Benguet State University, St. Alexius College, Notre Dame & Marbel University, Mariners’ Polytechnic Colleges Foundation of Canaman (CamSur), and three more pending their membership application from Lorma College Inc., Bulacan State University and the Nueva Vizcaya State University.
