National Academy of Sports gets boost

THERE is a chance that Paris Olympics’ double gold medallist Carlos Yulo will share his knowledge with student-athletes at the National Academy of Sports (NAS) in Capas, Tarlac.

The 24-year-old Yulo expressed this desire on Monday during a visit at the NAS with Department of Education secretary Sonny Angara and ceremonial turnover of donations from Jollibee Foods Corporation.

“I would love to visit and do training camps with the students. I can also do cross-training in different sports because I need that experience as an athlete,” said Yulo.

The Olympian also talked to Angara about his outlook, after JFC also turned over P5 million-worth of donations to NAS, for improvement of their infrastructure and equipment.

Angara discussed Yulo’s experiences when he competed in the Palarong Pambansa and his plans to help aspiring athletes during a tour of the facility.

“Thank you very much to Jollibee for the care. Ang Jollibee po ang kauna-unahang galing sa pribadong sektor na nag-alay o nagbigay ng donasyon dito sa NAS,” said Secretary Angara.

NAS executive director Josephine Joy Reyes said they are happy with the donations that they have received, which is a first, coming from the private sector.

“It is probably because of the hype of the Olympics. Since we are mandated to produce world-class athletes, I think that became the inspiration of Jollibee to help NAS since this is the home of future champions, the home of future Olympians,” said Reyes.

Ferns Yu, Jollibee Foods Corporation president, was also around during the turnover ceremonies.

“Jollibee has always been an advocate of Pinoy Pride. In honor of the historic feat of the Team Philippines during the Paris Olympics, we are boosting our efforts in helping build the next generation of world class Pinoys,” said Yu in a statement.
