Knights whip Bombers to notch 1st win

LETRAN rode on the game-long brilliance of Jimboy Estrada and clutch triples by Deo Cuajao as it repulsed Jose Rizal University, 70-62, yesterday for its first win in NCAA Season 100 at the Filoil EcoOil Arena.

After Bombers skipper Joshua Guiab knotted the count at 58 with a little over four minutes to go, the sweet-shooting Cuajao swished a pair of cold-blooded threes while Estrada put on the finishing touches by scoring the Knights’ final six points.

It was the first triumph for the bald dribblers from Intramuros after stumbling to the San Sebastian Stags, 91-84, Sunday.

Estrada went on to finish with 22 points, nine rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block in all-around performance that bode well for a Letran team that is out to reclaim the title it lost a year ago.

Jace Miller also contributed well by chipping in 16 points including a pair of booming treys on top of five assists, two boards and two steals for the Allen Ricardo mentored Knights.

The Bombers, who were led by Shawn Argente’s 18 points, dropped to 0-2.

Meanwhile, SSC-R and College of St. Benilde gun for their third straight win against defending champion San Beda and a dangerous Emilio Aguinaldo College at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively, today.

While both the Stags and the Blazers remained unscathed with 2-0 marks, the Lions and the Generals have stumbled to 1-1 starts.
