MARAGONDON — The local government here opened the 2024 edition of the ‘Unlad Angat Kabataang Maragondon’ Cup Sports for the Youth, held at the Town Plaza covered court in Barangay Poblacion 1-A on Saturday.
Mayor Lawrence ‘Umbe’ Arca, Vice Mayor Bernie Ilagan, and Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Robby Tañagas led the opening of the tournament for this year’s edition.
Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters PBA player Simon Camacho, a native of Maragondon, led the lighting of the cauldron to signal the formal opening of the tournament.
The tournament is participated in by 20 teams from different barangays for the 25-Under and 18 teams for the 15-Under for basketball, 10 teams for men’s volleyball and six teams for the women’s division volleyball.
Tournaments for badminton, table tennis, billiards, softball and Mobile Legend are also featured.
The local government’s goal is to promote the sports program in Maragondon, keep the youth busy with sports this summer season and away from vice, according to Mayor Arca.
The sports event aims to ensure that local folks are able to benefit from their local environment to the fullest and recognize the important role of sports in the locality.
