Carlos Yulo’s younger brother Karl Eldrew has been in Japan over the last two weeks with Southeast Asian Games gold medallist John Ivan Cruz and are in a training camp with Japanese coach Munehiro Kugimiya.

The 15-year-old Yulo is now in the same facility that his elder brother Caloy trained at in the past.

The younger Yulo has been under evaluation and has starting to step out of the shadow of his older brother Carlos, having swept six gold medals at stake in the 2023 Palarong Pambansa, and later snatching seven gold medals in the Batang Pinoy.

“They are now in a training camp with coach Mune,” said Gymnastics Association of the Philippines president Cynthia Carrion Norton.

Kugimiya is also focusing his attention on Cruz, who claimed the floor exercise gold and later joined Carlos Yulo in bringing home the team all-around silver during the Cambodia SEA Games.

Another young standout in Miguel Besana will soon get training assistance from Kugimiya after he finished with a gold medal in the vault exercise event of the Cambodia SEAG, according to Carrion Norton.

The gymnastics’ chief does not count out the inclusion of Jan Timbang, who was part of Team Philippines’ silver winners in the all-around.

The GAP said the coaches of the national team are deciding on the composition of the national squad which will be sent to the World Cup this year.

Cruz, Besana and Timbang, along with Eldrew Yulo are set to join Carlos Yulo in training camps in Spain, the United Kingdom and Australia

The training plan has been mapped out for Carlos Yulo before he goes to Paris with fellow Olympic qualifier Aleah Finnegan.

The 23-year-old Carlos Yulo is currently in a monthlong training camp in South Korea to help keep him in shape for his stint in 2024 Paris Olympics.
