BAGUIO — Terence Macatangay shot an eagle-aided 36 points to help Januarius Private Equity-1 maintain a slim lead in the Fil-Championship division of the 73rd Januarius Fil Am Invitational held at the Camp John Hay Golf Club.

With Jet Mathay’s 35, Ray Sangil’s 32 and Ayon Sanchez’s 30, Januarius Private Equity-1 tallied 133 and 383, two up on Manila Southwoods-1 (138-381) and four over Eastridge-1 (135-379).

Aidric Chan was exceptional with his 37 points to pace Southwoods-1. Other scorers were Shinichi Suzuki 36, Ryan Monsalve 33 and Lanz Uy 32. Paolo Wong’s 29 did not count.

Time Cargo Logistics-2 showed nerves of steel in the last few holes to successfully defend its crown in Am-A, escaping with a two-point win against Forest Hills-2 in one of the most exciting matches in Fil-Am history.

Time Cargo scored 256 points at Camp John Hay and built a huge lead of 32. However, the troop slowed down considerably at Baguio Country Club and collected only 89 and 86 in the final 36 holes for a 431 total.

Forest Hills, meanwhile, led a furious comeback, chopping off once an invincible advantage to 17 after the third round and further down to 7 with nine holes left in the finale.

But the Antipolo-based members sputtered in the finish and produced 101 for 429.

“It was a cardiac ending. Forest Hills gave us a good scare. I’m glad we came out with the win,” said Time Cargo Logistics owner Ruel Cabral, who made a crucial four-putt in the closing hole that gave his team the win.

Uraguns-1 (125-453) was triumphant in Fil-A, upending X1R-Ecoverde (113439) and CheLus-1 (118-435).
