Franchette Quiroz and Amparo Acuna met expectations when they surpassed the minimum qualification scores in four of 12 shooting events that will be held in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

This allowed Quiroz and Acuna to pile up points needed to improve their Olympic Qualification Rankings during the 15th Asian Shooting Championship 2023, which ended Tuesday in Changwon Korea.

Quiroz, now the highest-ranking shooter from the Philippines after the Hangzhou Asian Games, compiled a score of 565 in the women’s 10-meter air pistol qualifications to finish at no. 41 overall.

With rounds of 95, 94, 92, 96, 94 and 94, Quiroz’s score went past the MQS of 550

The 27-year-old Quiroz later struck with a total of 574 points in the women’s 25-meter pistol event, which was past the MQS of 560.

On the final day, Acuna shot a total of 616.6 in the women’s 10-meter air rifle event to end up at no. 53, just 5.6 points shy of the Philippine national record.

Acuna still did not disappoint, as her score was way above the MQS of 590.

She had a 616.7 in the women’s 50-meter rifle prone competitions to come up with her best finish in the tournament at 16th place.

Meanwhile, men’s trap shooters Hagen Topacio, Eric Carag and Jethro Dionisio missed the MQS in their event set at 112, with scores of 105, 102 and 105, to land at 32nd, 41st and 34th places during the qualifications.

Men’s skeet shooter Paul Brian Rosario also tumbled out with his tally of 107, to miss cut set at 114, and land at 29th overall.
