Boyet Fernandez will have a replacement as coach of the San Beda University Red Lions men’s basketball team this week.

And it could be Aldin Ayo if ongoing talks with the 3×3 mentor prospers.

San Beda team manager Jude Roque told the Manila Standard on Monday that they have narrowed down their choices on who will handle the Red Lions when season 98 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball kicks off in September. He, however, did not mention any name, although Ayo said he was one of the choices.

“I am being considered by San Beda. There’s nothing final yet,” said Ayo, who added he has not made a commitment and is currently focused on his job as coach of the Chooks 3×3 basketball teams that are competing locally and internationally.

The 44-year-old Ayo has taken on the new job as a 3×3 basketball coach after he parted ways with the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers two years ago.

Fernandez and his staff were officially let go by the university following an online meeting last Sunday. He first handled in San Beda in 2013 and 2014.

The Red Lions completed a five-peat run from 2010 to 2015, before winning back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018.
