The resumption of the Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup on Wednesday is in doubt.
PBA officials are still unsure of their coming schedule of games, now that Metro Manila has been placed under Alert Level 3 for two weeks starting Monday because of a rise in COVID-19 cases and the emergence of the Omicron variant.
The league is currently discussing matters concerning their status with government authorities.
Commissioner Willie Marcial is seeking the advise the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, the Games and Amusements Board and local government units regarding their schedule.
Marcial is expected to get clarification early this week on the PBA’s status, after the games returned to the SMART Araneta Coliseum before a live audience last December 15.
The PBA is also supposed to return to the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay by Jan. 15.
When the league reopened late this year, action was done under a closed-circuit set-up at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig. It was held in Bacolor, Pampanga as well.
