NEW things are expected to happen when Season 79 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines unravels its opening-day rites today with the theme “Dare to Dream.”
“It will be a very simple opening ceremony this year,” said UAAP Season 79 president Fr. Ermito de Sagon.
Before the opening ceremonies set at 5:30 p.m. at the historic Plaza Mayor, the UAAP will hold its first-ever ballroom dancing competition at 2 p.m. at the nearby University of Santo Tomas Quadri-centennial Pavilion Arena.
It will be introduced this season as a demonstration sport.
All schools, except for Far Eastern University, are joining.
The main attraction of the opening ceremonies will be the student-athletes from among the eight member-schools who will have a parade at the grounds of Plaza Mayor.
Action in the basketball game will commence Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum..
Last season’s runner-up UST clashes with Ateneo in the main game at 4 p.m., right after University of the Philippines and Adamson take the floor at 2 p.m.
The Lady Maroons and the Lady Falcons collide at 8 a.m., to be followed by the Tigresses-Lady Eagles at 10 a.m.
