SEVEN gold medals will be at stake in the 90th National Collegiate Athletic Association track and field competition, which begins today at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Jose Rizal University starts its title-retention bid gunning for medals in pole vault, long jump and discus throw in the senior division. JRU bets are favored to dominate these early events as they seek to extend their reign for a  fifth straight year.

JRU will draw strength from Domingo Cabradilla, who garnered three golds last season.

The Kalentong-based athletes snagged their fourth crown behind Cabradilla’s heroics.

Jojo Posadas, who is coach of the Bombers along with wife and former national team track star Elma Muros-Posadas, said he expects a tougher challenge this year for JRU.

At stake in the junior side are golds in the discus throw, long jump, 100-meter run and the 2,000-meter steeplechase.

“We expect a tougher field this season, but we will do our best to win it again this year,” said Posadas in Filipino.
