THE Federation of the Touch Football Pilipinas will compete for the first time in the World Cup with a pair of national teams representing the country in the prestigious event set April 28 to March 3 in Australia.

The first-ever Philippine women’s and mixed team, composed of homegrown talents and Fil-Australian players, will compete against the best in the world, led by powerhouse US, Australia and New Zealand.

A total of 84 teams are seeing action in the meet to be held at Coffs, Harbour, New South Wales.

Women’s team coach Craig Wislang, guesting at the Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum at Shakey’s Malate yesterday said the Philippine Pythons are seeking a modest goal of just finishing either as the no. 1 or 2 team in Asia.

“We are looking at measuring ourselves against the other Asian teams. If we ended the tournament first or second from Asia, then we will have been very successful,” said Wislang in the session presented by Shakey’s, Accel, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation.

“It’s going to be tough, but we’re looking to outperform Hong Kong and Singapore, which are the best teams in Asia,” added Wislang, who was accompanied in the forum by FTPP president Clair Barberis and players Mai Peregrina, Roge Dublin, Nerice dela Cruz, and Joan Javier.
