SB19 closes one chapter, kicks off another with ‘Wakas at Simula’

SB19 released its highly anticipated sophomore album, Wakas at Simula, yesterday, March 27, via Sony Music Entertainment.

The full-length record marks a turning point for the P-Pop quintet, closing one chapter of its career while opening another.

Following the success of Simula at Wakas world tour and the group’s upcoming appearance at Lollapalooza in Chicago, the album positions SB19 at the forefront of the genre’s rising international profile.

“Wakas at Simula closes the chapter of proving ourselves,” the group said in a statement. “In the beginning, we focused on finding our place, building our identity, and earning people’s trust. This album honors that journey while guiding us into a more grounded and intentional version of SB19.”

The 24-track project spans six new songs alongside reworked versions of tracks from the P-Pop Kings’ 2021 EP, Pagsibol. Collaborations include C-Pop star Jolin on the track “Emoji” and Japanese boy band BE:FIRST on “Toyfriend.”

The album explores a wide sonic range, from the R&B-tinged “Memories” to the experimental industrial textures of “Everblack,” and unifies the group’s trilogy of EPs (Pagsibol, Pagtatag, and Simula at Wakas) under a single concept of duality and transformation.

Stell noted that working with international artists provided valuable insight for both the group and their fan base, A’Tin, into the workings of global music labels.

“Since SB19 built its own system from the ground up, these collaborations helped us see how we can refine and evolve our approach,” he said.

The album will culminate in the Wakas at Simula Concert on April 18 at the SMDC Festival Grounds, serving as the finale of their Simula at Wakas tour. While the group will not mount a full world tour this time, they will perform shows across North America, Europe, and the Middle East later this year.

Wakas at Simula is now available on all digital music platforms worldwide.
