Rob Deniel set for first Big Dome solo concert

From a quiet corner of Laguna to the country’s biggest stage, 22-year-old Rob Deniel is living a leap he never quite planned.

The singer-songwriter may be racking up hit after hit, but he says his provincial roots still keep his feet firmly on the ground. Back home, he hears his songs playing from neighbors’ houses, often without them realizing the voice on the speaker belongs to the boy next door.

He still moves around like anyone else, he said, and does not mind stopping for photos when people finally recognize him.

These are the reasons why the idea of headlining his own concert once felt wildly out of reach. But that changed when Viva management told him he would be staging a solo show at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, one of the most iconic venues in Philippine music.

“Natakot ako at first. Who am I to hold a concert at the Araneta Coliseum?” Rob told Manila Standard Entertainment. “But I think our bosses believed in me, that’s why they pushed me to do it. I’m taking it from their trust. Boss Vic del Rosario trusted me.”

Despite the scale of the announcement, Rob said the nerves have yet to fully sink in.

Rob admits performing at the Big Dome is less intimidating than it seems, especially with the blinding lights

“I’ll be nervous maybe when the concert date gets near, but right now I don’t feel any pressure. It will come, but I still don’t feel it,” he said.

Having performed at the Big Dome before, he said the venue feels far less intimidating once you step under the lights.

“The Big Dome is huge, especially in photos or if you’re in the audience. But onstage, with the lights blinding you, it feels different,” he said. “The only thing that makes me nervous is the thought of performing alone. I do have guests, but being the headliner is different.”

Still, he added, the belief shown by his label outweighs the fear.

“It’s just exciting that they believe I can do it.”

Rob’s rise has been shaped by quiet persistence, bedroom songwriting sessions, and a sound that blends retro influences with soulful vocals and deeply personal lyrics. What started as simple experiments with melody has turned into a growing presence in the OPM scene.

Songs such as “miss miss,” “ang pag-ibig,” and viral favorite “romcom” have helped him build a loyal following, while his reinterpretations of classics like “Ikaw Sana” and “Nandito Ako” introduced older hits to a younger audience.

All that momentum now leads to his first major solo concert, The Rob Deniel Show, set for Feb. 27 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Tickets are available through Ticketnet.

Joining him onstage are Arthur Nery, Ashtine Olviga, Janine Teñoso, Pops Fernandez, and Ogie Alcasid.

“People see me as a balladeer, but my artistry is diverse, and that’s what they’ll see during the concert,” Rob said.

He added that the night is designed to be more than a standard performance.

“You will experience it. I want people to feel like they’re part of the show,” he chimed.
