Comedienne and TV host Pokwang and media executive Maria Rosa “Ms. Charo” Cordial shared personal stories of hardship, family and success in a podcast recorded at the Maddox Jewelry showroom in Marikina City
Filmed at the showroom of Maddox Jewelry on JP Rizal Street, Concepcion Uno, the conversation went beyond a typical interview, which opened reflective discussions on life, career, and motherhood.
Pokwang, who has been in the entertainment industry for more than two decades, said comedy remains more difficult than drama because performers must project happiness regardless of personal struggles.
“Para sa akin, mas mahirap ang comedy,” she said, noting comedians must constantly adjust to different audiences. She added that audiences today are more sensitive than before.
She also shared her upbringing in poverty, recalling how she grew up without a television and watched programs through neighbors before working overseas as an overseas Filipino worker prior to entering show business.
“Hindi talaga! Kasi kapag sinabi mong artista, dapat mestiza, maganda,” she said, adding opportunities later opened for her in the industry.
Cordial related to Pokwang’s experience, recalling her own childhood watching borrowed tapes and television.
The two also discussed family life, touching on the importance of staying connected with aging parents and prioritizing children amid social media influence.
Cordial became emotional while expressing gratitude to her parents, saying perspective changes once one has a family.
They also reflected on shared goals of improving their families’ lives and childhood dreams far from their current careers.
