Filipino actor Anthony Jennings is set to headline his first international film, Mother Maybe, a horror-comedy-drama directed by Sonny Calvento.
The film was announced as part of the Southeast Asian slate at the 2025 Hong Kong FilMart, as reported by Variety and confirmed by Jennings’ home network, ABS-CBN. Mother Maybe is a co-production between Southern Lantern Studios (Philippines), E&W Films (Singapore), and Volos Films Ltd. (Taiwan). It also carries the working title Inahing Baka.
Jennings will portray Marco, a young man who travels abroad to reunite with his estranged mother—only to uncover a terrifying truth: she transforms into a monstrous creature at night.
Calvento, known for his Cinemalaya debut Nabubulok (The Decaying), said Jennings was chosen for the role due to his natural charm, comedic timing, and emotional depth. Production is expected to begin in the last quarter of 2025.
Jennings rose to fame through his roles in ABS-CBN series 2 Good 2 Be True and Can’t Buy Me Love. He currently stars in the action-drama Incognito, playing Tomas Guerrero.
With Mother Maybe, Jennings joins a growing list of Filipino talents making waves internationally, following in the footsteps of artists like Dolly de Leon and Chai Fonacier.
