The Philippine Film Archive (PFA) has collaborated with Cité de Mémoire for the premiere of the restored version of National Artist for Film Lino Brocka’s film Jaguar at the 16th Lumière Film Festival in Lyon, France.
Screened at the Lumière Terreaux and the Institut Lumière Villa as part of the festival’s Lumière Classics & New Restorations: Treasures and Curiosities section, the film saw a large number of viewers which made the festival open another theater to accommodate the audience.
PFA head Don Gervin Arawan together with restoration collaborator Denis Garcia gave an introduction before the film began.
The Lumière Film Festival is an annual celebration of cinematic heritage and showcases classic films as well as honors the contributions of filmmakers all over the world to the film industry. The festival also includes the International Classic Film Market (MIFC) which is a hub for film restoration projects.
Jaguar’s premiere internationally underscored the efforts of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) in the preservation and restoration of the Filipino cinematic heritage, which will allow such films to reach more audiences as well as inspire future generations of filmmakers all around the world.
