No comedy for Vic Sotto in MMFF comeback

After a five-year hiatus from making a Christmas entry for the film festival, comedian and Eat Bulaga host Vic Sotto will be gracing the silver screen once again with the film The Kingdom. The film, which also stars Piolo Pascual and directed by Michael Tuviera, is an official entry to the 50th edition of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

In a previous interview, Sotto said that the film is far different from his classic roles like Enteng Kabisote and Lastikman.

“This is not comedy. I have never done anything like this before. We have never even heard this kind of storyline before, but we’ll save that for another time,” Bossing said in the vernacular.

He then shared that he said ‘yes’ to the film because he found it a “super challenging” project that diverges from his previous comedic roles, providing a refreshing change.

“I’m done with Enteng Kabisote, and comedy. When this project was presented to me, I thought it would push my limits since it’s really different,” he added.

Bossing then described the film as an “eye-opener” for all Filipinos.

“The story and concept are different. Nothing like we’ve seen before. For me, this will serve as an eye-opener for all Filipinos, for our fellow countrymen and the Philippines,” continued Bossing.

Aside from his grand return to MMFF, the comedian is also busy with his newest endorsement. Recently, he was named the first ambassador of the online gaming platform PlayTime.

“It’s truly heartwarming and a privilege to continue my mission of bringing joy, entertainment, and happiness to the daily lives of Filipinos, anytime and anywhere, through PlayTime,” said Bossing during a recent photo and video shoot with PlayTime executives.

With over four decades in the Philippine entertainment industry—ruling noontime TV ratings with thrilling games and contests in Eat Bulaga!”, achieving remarkable success as a TV sitcom star, and producing hit films—it’s only natural for Bossing to expand his reach online and embrace the challenge of becoming the king of multimedia entertainment.

On the other hand, PlayTime PR head Jay Sabale described Bossing as the perfect face for the growing online gaming app.

“Apart from being the boss, when it comes to game shows, making people happy, family fun, and everything, he is the first one who comes to mind. At the same time, since we are a gaming platform, we want to make people happy,” stated Sabale.

“And as you can see, Boss Vic is a very, very good example of somebody who succeeded but is very responsible in his career and in the path he has taken,” he continued.

He also clarified that PlayTime is not endorsed as a betting platform but as a form of entertainment Filipinos can use as a way to pass the time and have fun.

“So, if you have nothing to do, you’re at home, you’re bored, this can be a good form of entertainment. And of course, as we said, if you’re gonna play, you have to play responsibly. That’s important,” added Sabale.
