The Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD) at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) continues its movie screenings every Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays of May.
All films are free and open to the public.
Showing until May 13 is Wong Kar-Wai’s Happy Together, starring two of Hong Kong’s leading superstars: the late Leslie Cheung and Tony Leung. It follows a gay couple, Lai and Ho, who move to Argentina to build a life together. When Lai befriends Chang, another Asian expatriate, it forces the duo to study their relationship.
Landscape in the Mist by Theo Angelopoulous will be presented on May 16, 18 and 20. Siblings named Vuola and Alexandros journey from their hometown in Greece to Germany in search of their father who they have never met in their lives. As strangers offer them a ride across borders, they come face to face with the realities of living alone.
David Cronenberg’s Existenz follows on May 23, 25 and 27. Starring Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jude Law, this sci-fi tale focuses on the efforts of Allegra, a renowned video game designer, to recover Existenz, the game she was working on that was damaged during an attempt on her life. With the help of Ted, the program is implanted into their bodies. The movie describes their experiences when fantasy and reality blur into one.
The list of films is curated by Heman Chong, an artist whose pieces have been displayed at the 20th Sydney Biennale, 10th Gwangju Biennale, Asia Pacific Triennale 7, Performa 11, Manifesta 7, 2nd Singapore Biennale and has represented Singapore at the 50th Venice Biennale.
All screenings will be held at the MCAD Multimedia Room, with two showings every Wednesday and Friday, at 12 noon and 3:00 p.m., and at 12 noon every Sunday.
