Iconic Ryan Cayabyab song gets modern twist

Platinum-selling American DJ and producer Dillon Francis and over 30 Malibu Rum Ambassadors from the US, Canada, the UK, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, and South Korea are launching #TheCoconutChallenge, a new dance craze that aims to get everyone on their feet while sending out good vibes.

What makes #TheCoconutChallenge even more amazing is that it’s got ties to the Philippines, as Francis remixes a classic Filipino pop tune in “The Coconut Song” by Philippine National Artist Ryan Cayabyab.

With “The Coconut Nut Malibu Remix,” Francis gives the song a fresh and modern twist, making it popular again as the foundation of this season’s latest viral dance challenge. Now that’s something for Filipinos to definitely be proud of.

“The Coconut Nut is a perfect lighthearted anthem for summer vibes, so I hope my new Malibu remix and #TheCoconutChallenge can provide a moment of reprieve while everything in the world still seems so uncertain,” said Dillon Francis.

#TheCoconutChallenge is not just for show, too—it’s part of a bigger movement to help out businesses in need after the global COVID-19 pandemic affected them. Malibu has pledged an initial $150,000 to the National Urban League to support African American-owned businesses in the US, and also donated $1 for each #TheCoconutChallenge post from netizens in the US and Canada for a maximum contribution of $250,000.
