American rapper and singer Lizzo took to Instagram to clarify a previous statement where she said she was quitting. In a video posted on her official account, the pop sensation emphasized she wasn’t abandoning her music career.

“I just need to clarify [that] when I say I quit, I mean I quit giving any negative energy attention. What I’m not gonna quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting with people ‘cause I know I’m not alone,” said Lizzo.

Lizzo acknowledged she wasn’t alone in facing negativity. “I hope to inspire at least one person in a similar situation to stand up for themselves,” she said. She concluded by expressing gratitude for the support and vowing to keep moving forward.

“With that being said, I’m going to keep moving forward. I’m going to keep being me,” said Lizzo.

Previously, Lizzo expressed frustration with public negativity, a sentiment not helped by a lawsuit filed by three former backup dancers alleging sexual, religious, and racial harassment, disability discrimination, assault, false imprisonment, and weight shaming. While some claims were dismissed, the case is ongoing.
