G-Force’s dance workshop is more than just teaching dance steps; it’s a transformative experience that instills valuable life lessons in its participants. While the workshop undoubtedly hones their dancing skills, it also cultivates essential qualities that extend far beyond the dance floor.

The group’s inaugural workshop competition, G-Force Project 2023 The Competition, was a resounding success, captivating the audience with electrifying performances gracing the Samsung Performing Arts Theater stage recently.

This year’s event marked a significant milestone for G-Force as it transformed the traditional workshop into a competitive showcase, featuring eight teams mentored by eight G-Force-trained celebrity choreographers.

Teacher Georcelle Dapat-Sy, the visionary behind G-Force, expressed her pride in the event’s success, highlighting its evolution over the years.

“The G-Force Project is our way of sharing happiness, sharing the gift of dance, and we started it in 2008. So, it’s been 15 years, and we keep on doing it, and it has also evolved,” she shared.

The seasoned choreographer also emphasized how the competition could help in intensifying the group’s commitment to go beyond just dancing.

“It’s really growth for our students. The competition gives you an opportunity to build new skills and how you work with pressure, and that’s where resilience comes in, teamwork, discipline, those are the values that we teach here in G-Force,” explained Teacher Georcelle.

“That’s why we call it more than just dancing because students here when they get out from this workshop, they transform completely. They become a different person. We don’t just teach steps, choreography, it’s really beyond dancing,” she added.

The competition format added an exciting twist to this year’s event, with the winning team walking away with a prize of P150,000. The event’s open-door policy welcomed participants of all ages, from young aspiring dancers to enthusiastic moms, ensuring that the joy of dance transcended boundaries.

Meanwhile, Teacher Georcelle clarified that G-Force’s original dance creations are protected under the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHIL). She likened the copyright process for dance steps to that of music, stating that just as certain music tracks are freely available on TikTok, so are some of G-Force’s dance steps.

“You know, when you’re writing songs, right? You have created [it] and of course, when someone wants to use it, you need to pay for the royalty fee. Similar with songwriters…probably because ngayon lang talaga narinig ang dance. [But] it has been there for a long time already,” explained Teacher Georcelle.

Emphasizing openness, she encouraged people to freely engage with their creativity by using and participating in posted dance challenges with readily available music tracks on social media.
