2017 Pinoy Kpop Star Competiton at SM City North Edsa’s Skydome

The Korean Embassy’s Korean Cultural Center recently treated mallgoers to a K-Pop Festival during the 2017 Pinoy K-Pop Star competition at the SkyDome in SM City North EDSA.

A joint project of the The Korean Cultural Center of the Korean Embassy in the Philippines, in partnership with SM, the 2017 Pinoy KPop Star competition aims to promote Korean music and culture 

And the mall crowd was not disappointed as twenty finalists showed off their K-Pop talents as they aimed to be the Philippines’ representatives to the K-Pop Festival and the KBS K-Pop World Festival, in the performance and vocal categories, respectively.

PHP or Power House Philippines was declared as the Grand Prize Winner in the vocal category, and will represent the Philippines in the Online Regional Finals for the 2017 K-Pop World Festival in Changwon, South Korea. The dance duo MiU won second place and Venisse Nicole Siy, third. 

Volo Pro Veritas danced their way to become Grand Champion, and will represent the Philippines in the 2017 K-Pop Festival in Changwon, South Korea.

The group So Nice won second, while Fatal third.

Finalist PARADOX sings “Bday” by Ikon

The panel of judges was headed by the new Korean Cultural Center Director and Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines’ First Secretary, Lee Jincheol. They clearly had a difficult time selecting the winners. Other judges included celebrities Dasuri Choi and Yohan Hwang, as well Gigi Yia, editor-in-chief of the Kpop magazine, and Jessica Yuan, past president of the Philippine KPop Convention, Inc.

The event was packed beginning with opening numbers by last year’s Pinoy Pop Star winners: Exotix, in the performance category, and Andrea Fe Padilla in the singing category. A special performance by Dasuri Choi, the Korean Cultural Center of the Korean Embassy K-Pop dance instructor and Eat Bulaga’s Korean Dancing Diva, was a hit among K-Pop lovers. Yohan Hwang, the Grand Touristar of ABS-CBN’s I Love OPM, on the other hand, serenaded the K-Pop fans as the festival’s closing act.

The 2017 Pinoy KPop Star competition is one of the many exciting cultural events at the Skydome in SM City North EDSA.
