COVID-19 pandemic has changed family life for millions globally. With social distancing and home quarantine being strictly implemented, caring for the mental health of our children should also be one of our top priorities.
For actress and singer Yasmien Kurdi, explaining the “new normal” set-up to her seven-year-old daughter was easy but she had to talk to her child in a language she’d easily understand.
“I told her that this is the new normal set up of our society but I had to also explain that it’s only temporary and that everything will eventually become okay for the most of us,” Yasmien told Manila Standard in a video conference.
Apart from constantly reminding her child of hygienic practice, the Kapuso star makes sure that her child understands why they are confined inside their house and why they can’t do their outdoor activities for the time being.
“I would have to commend the level of intelligence of our children right now. In all fairness to them, they can easily process and understand situations like these if we’d just explain it to them properly. Right now, they have their own chatroom where they also talk about our situation. They are very aware of what’s happening,” she added.
Yasmien and her daughter Ayesha enjoy doing outdoor activities like swimming. They bond on weekends by going to movie theaters.
“Good thing my daughter also likes cooking and baking, so that’s how we spend our day right now while at home. Two months na kaming laging magkakasama, along with her daddy (Rey Soldevilla). He’s a pilot at wala ring flights ngayon kaya todo ang bonding namin as a family,” Yasmien said and added that she encourages Ayesha to take online classes so she won’t get bored and make her quarantine time even more productive.
No kissing scene after quarantine
Once she’s back to taping, Yasmien stressed out that she would still like to practice social distancing, which means she would have to decline any intimate contact with her co-stars.
“No kissing scene muna. I think romantic drama should focus on LDR (long-distance relationship) in the meantime,” the actress said in jest.
Meanwhile, the 31-year-old actress is stoked for the performance of the series Beautiful Justice, which currently enjoys a good following overseas. The series that also stars Bea Binene, Gabbi Garcia, Derrick Monasterio, and Gil Cuerva has been bought in some Asian and Latin American countries.
“I’m glad that I became part of the series because it’s been receiving positive feedback from audiences abroad. I hope mas marami pang ibang bansa na bumili nito so we can have more international exposure,” she ended.
