Playing the blame game as to who is the culprit behind the delay of the renewal of the ABS-CBN franchise and the latest political debacle the Mother Ignacia station, its artists, and employees are currently facing, is outright useless. Our blabbers and opinions have no bearing on the matter at hand.
The most emotionally healthy thing to do, allow the legal process to take its course. Let the team of lawyers and experts go full throttle with their arguments, facts, and versions of truth whenever and wherever.
We are all spectators of this democratic process. Our main resolve must and should be, the protection of the freedom of expression.
There are more pressing concerns that must be addressed by the current powers that be in particular, and the scientific community as well, because the vaccine to eradicate the COVID-19 virus is still up in the air. Delay to the discovery of a remedy means more lives lost, the curve’s flattening is nil and the quarantine’s fangs bite us all for a longer time.
Thus, I cannot help but wonder, why most are obsessing with the video posts of an obviously upset Coco Martin, this generation’s biggest male superstar, and why the svelte Kim Chiu’s exposition about her thoughts with regard to her network’s imbroglio became the laugh trip video and preoccupation of the week? Really now, isn’t all these outright ridiculous?
The manner of bashing and maligning Martin and Chiu shocks you up from the slow-paced lives this quarantine season. It’s hard to comprehend the level of hypocrisy from so-called concerned majority who are so outraged with the not so pleasant behavior of the FPJ’s Ang Probinsiyano lead actor. Also, disbelief and exasperation are the most appropriate words to describe the lamentable behavior of the pretentious perfect and enlightened flock who are laughing so loudly as their united proclamation that Xian Lim’s inamorata is the vapidest female star this side of local Tinseltown.
Adding more irritation are the boisterous handful who made fun of Martin’s speech inadequacies acting as if they are masters in the subjects of enunciation. They even had the boldness to create a video that showcases the Love Thy Woman protagonist inside a recording studio and the aural backdrop, Chiu’s statement in verbatim complete with X-Files soundtrack.
The flare ups of Martin and Chiu are understandable. Their emotional triggers, the cease and desist order that led to the closure of the network they work for, and the uncertainty of the future, not only for them but for all who are affected by the turn of event. What is difficult to comprehend, why so much energies being thrown at Martin and Chiu when much can be said and written about those who are directly responsible in the efficient manning of the COVID-19 virus drawback.
Is it safe to request that those ganging up on Martin and Chiu implement reforms and solutions that will address this modern-day plague?
Let us be kind to Coco Martin and Kim Chiu from all the hate and vitriol because we are all in the same boat -- afraid, bewildered, and confused of the state of affairs of their network. The two stars may be looked like demigods, but they are just like the rest of us, with feelings and vulnerabilities, fears and weaknesses, looking for answers, praying for miracles, with the hope that we survive this most unpredictable predicament.
With the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) now in full modified mode, let us continue to pray incessantly, and channel the forces of the Universe and the Divine to give the scientists and those in the medical field the solution for the much-needed vaccine, and to be vigilant so that the delivery of goods, services, and social ameliorations won’t remain as empty promises.
In full support to Coco Martin, Kim Chui, and all the artists and employees of ABSCBN, and to all who fight and defend press freedom, to the many who uphold what is right and just, and the multitude that hold in their hearts still that the goodness of men always triumphs and that wolves in sheep’s clothing, are vanquished.
Coco Martin and Kim Chui may not be perfect, but the curious cases they are in, give us more reasons to be more calculated and discerning, with the right balance of heart and mind, in choosing which paths and valleys we take,
