Thousands trooped to Angel Locsin’s community pantry along Holy Spirit Drive in Don Antonio Heights in Quezon City on Friday. They hoped to get free goods from the actress who organized the pantry to mark her 36th birthday.

The initiative, however, turned into a tragic event when 67-year-old Rolando dela Cruz, among the thousands who turned up hoping to get free goods, lost consciousness and was declared dead on arrival in a hospital.

Angel apologized and confirmed that Dela Cruz had been in queue since 3:00 a.m.

According to the Kapamilya star, she coordinated with the family and vowed to support them all the way.

Meanwhile, Angel’s mother studio has released an official statement to show their support to the actress, who continuously gets flak on social media for setting up the pantry where social distancing and other health protocols were hardly observed.

In a statement sent to Manila Standard Entertainment by ABS-CBN corporate communications head Kane Errol Choa, the network said that they believe in the goodness of the heart of Angel, who in her personal capacity has tirelessly helped our countrymen in times of crisis.

“We admire her commitment to continue serving the Filipino people with selfless dedication and love. We stand by her and thank her for being a shining example of generosity, accountability, and compassion,” the statement read.
