Sen. Kiko Pangilinan and the young Filipino Chinese entrepreneurs behind Anvil Business Club donated 2,000 bags of rice to urban poor families of barangays Tandang Sora, Kamuning, Santol, Kaunlaran, Sto. Niño and Sacred Heart of Quezon City and to Tondo district, Manila in cooperation with Mayor Joy Belmonte and Mayor Isko Moreno.

In Quezon City, Anvil was represented by Chairman Wilson Lee Flores, Vice-President Jayson Sze, and Director Katherine Yap, while Sen. Kiko Pangilinan was represented by Chief of Staff Atty. Third Bagro.  Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte was represented by Councilor Irene Belmonte.

The effort was a post-Chinese New Year civic project of the business club to help ease pandemic sufferings.

In Tondo district of Manila, Anvil Chairman Flores, director Aldrin Derrick Chua and director Vicente Sy supervised the donation with Atty. Bagro.

The Anvil officers didn’t just go for picture-taking ceremony, but they spent time to personally deliver rice packs on plastic chairs outside the homes of every urban poor family in well-organized efforts arranged by Sen. Pangilinan in cooperation with offices of the mayors of Quezon City and Manila.

Some of the families even shouted, “Maraming salamat” and even “Xie-xie” in Mandarin from their windows.

After the Quezon City rice-giving activities, Mayor Belmonte held a zoom dialogue with Anvil entrepreneurs to discuss her anti-COVID-19, vaccine roll-out, and public health initiatives. She discussed City Hall’s socio-economic, business investment, educational, poverty alleviation, food security, and green projects.

Anvil officers also cited Mayor Belmonte for her cultural and tourism projects, such as QCX Museum, QCinema International Film Festival (now on its ninth year and accepting entries to its short film competition, with details in QCinema’s Facebook page), beautification of Q.C. Chinatown and upgrading of Kamuning Public Market including its famous tailoring and textile shops.
