Known for her spontaneity, Maloi from P-pop sensation BINI has drawn the attention of her fans again during the group’s “Talaarawan” mall show at the Market! Market! Event area in BGC.
In a video shared by a fan on X, the P-pop idol can be seen walking through a large crowd of Blooms or BINI fans while holding a bouquet of flowers. Maloi then stopped to grab a pencil from a fan and sharpened it for them with no hesitation as the crowd continued to cheer loudly.
Many fans who saw the video reacted to how cute the idol was for the interaction. Meanwhile, TV host Bianca Gonzales expressed her confusion about it.
“huyyy bakit may nagpa-tasa ng lapis kay Bini Maloi,” she said in her post on X.
A fan had responded that it was a modern-day superstition around those who will be taking the board exam, with many often having previous passers or exam topnotchers sharpen the pencils they will be using for the test. Eventually, the belief had changed over the years and many exam takers shifted to making the people they looked up to sharpen their pencils for them.
The fan who had the pencil sharpened was X user @jhotaime_ who did it for a friend that was set to take the board exam. Later on, the fan shared that Maloi wasn’t able to sharpen the pencil all the way and jokingly told their friend to take the board exam in July instead.
In her own X account, Maloi reposted the video of herself sharpening the pencil.
“Ngayon nalang ulit ako nagtasa ng lapis after years,” she said in the post.
BINI’s mall show in Market! Market! for their latest “Talaarawan” EP had drawn more than 8,000 fans who were eager to support the girl group last April 14.
