Hiligaynon full-length film Salum and Mindanaoan student short Champ Green won the top prizes at the second edition of the Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival. The awards night was held in Quezon City on March 19.
Salum, directed by TM Malones, took home four awards, including the Panalong Pelikula for best full-length film, and prizes for production design, sound design, and musical scoring. The film also received a cash prize of 250,000 pesos.
In the student shorts category, Champ Green by Clyde Cuizon Gamale claimed five awards, including Panalong Maikling Pelikula for best short film, as well as honors for storytelling, supporting actor for Sol Eugenio, brand integration, and a Mowelfund Special Citation. The film earned a cash prize of 100,000 pesos and film equipment sponsored by industry partners.
Another Hiligaynon film, Tigkiliwi by Tara Illenberger, won seven awards, including Panalong Karangalan Mula sa Hurado (Jury Prize), best story, best actress for Ruby Ruiz, and best supporting actor for Jeffrey Jiruma.

Ties were declared in two major categories. JP Larroder (Tigkiliwi) and Khalil Ramos (Olsen’s Day) shared the best actor award, while Olsen’s Day and Journeyman both won for cinematography. JP Habac won best director for Olsen’s Day.
Sibling directors Christian Paolo and Dominic Lat’s Journeyman took home six trophies, including the International Jury Prize, MTRCB’s Responsableng Paglikha award, and Puregold Always Panalo Film, which it shared with Fleeting by Catsi Catalan.

In the student category, Uwian directed by Vhan Marco Molacruz of Colegio de San Juan de Letran won five awards, including best director, best actress for Geraldine Villamil, and best supporting actress for Uzziel Delamide.
Other winners included Sean Rafael Verdejo’s Dela Cruz, Juan P., which received a jury prize, and Ira Corinne Esguerra’s SamPie, awarded the Puregold Always Panalo Film.

This year’s CinePanalo saw increased grants for all entries, with P3,000,000 grants for full-length entries, and P150,000 grants for student shorts. The festival was also supported in large part by its partner organizationsTerminal Six Post, CMB Film Services Inc., Gateway Cineplex 18, MFP Rentals, the MTRCB, and the Mowelfund Film Institute.
The festival runs until March 25 at Gateway Cineplex 18 in Quezon City.
