For celebrity couple Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado, marriage is both a daily choice and a lifelong commitment rather than merely a romantic fairytale.
The real-life husband and wife reunite on the big screen in their film, Everything About My Wife. Directed by Real S. Florido and written by Rona Co, the romantic comedy explores the marriage of Dom, played by Dennis, and Imo, Jennylyn’s character, which appears perfect until they face the seven-year itch.
The plot shifts when Imo, feeling unfulfilled, begins to fall for Miguel (Sam Milby), a man who offers her the attention she desires.
For Jennylyn, this film marks her return to acting after a five-year break. Meanwhile, Dennis is eager to shift from intense dramas—having recently won the Best Actor award at the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival for Green Bones—to a lighthearted romantic comedy.
As a married couple, Jennylyn and Dennis discussed how their relationship impacted their performances. Dennis emphasized the importance of conveying a universal story that resonates with audiences.
“It’s very important to create a story that is universal so that the audience can relate. That’s why it’s easier for actors like us to play a married couple, as our roles in the film are also as a married couple. In a way, we already know what really happens—the beats of married life, how they argue, how they become happy, how they have problems. So it helps us a lot,” he said.
Jennylyn added that their familiarity with various scenarios in the film made the experience even more enjoyable.
“We are already familiar with the different scenes in the film. But what’s important is that both of us enjoyed how we did each scene. It’s a pleasure to work with Dennis,” she said.
Married in November 2021 and parents to daughter Dylan Jayde, born in April 2022, Dennis and Jennylyn are also raising their teenage sons—Alex Jazz, Jennylyn’s son with Patrick Garcia, and Calix Andreas, Dennis’ son with Carlene Aguilar.
As their family continues to expand, the dynamics of their relationship have undergone a notable transformation. Dennis noted that, over time, they have developed a profound understanding of each other’s personalities, which has shifted the conflict resolution process to one that primarily relies on effective communication and a solid foundation of mutual respect. He further highlighted that this enhanced understanding has significantly improved their ability to navigate challenges together.
On her part, Jennylyn elaborated on their shared commitment to creating and nurturing a happy, positive home environment for their daughter Dylan. They are dedicated to fostering an atmosphere that is not only healthy but also filled with love and support, ensuring that their child has the best possible upbringing. In a separate interview, Jennylyn discussed how her definition of marriage has evolved, stating that they have always recognized it as a significant commitment—an ongoing choice they navigate together. She noted that their marriage has deepened this understanding. Dennis agreed, emphasizing that marriage is not just a concept for them but a tangible reality they must cherish and safeguard for their family.
