Despite her participation in the golden edition of the Metro Manila Film Festival last December, where she portrayed meaty supporting roles in Green Bones and The Kingdom, Iza Calzado reveals that, at this point, she doesn’t want to do TV but instead prefers movies and theater.
“My decision is rooted in the fact that television work is a long-term commitment. Doing a soap opera is no joke. It really eats up much of your time, and sometimes, you don’t know how long that long term is,” she says.
“Another major factor in my decision is my daughter, Deia. She just turned two years old. I really want to give most of my time to her. So, unless you give me a very compelling project, I won’t go back to doing teleseryes. Just at this point!”
Interestingly, why does she prefer theater? It can be remembered that she did the play Tiny Beautiful Things: A Play about Life—In Letters last year and recently starred in the horror flick The Caretakers.
“Well, except for the technical week and the actual shows, I can still go home just in time for dinner and bedtime. I may even get to do other activities.”
How about films?
“I like doing movies because I know when they will end. Like, I know it’s going to be eight days. If I’m doing a cameo, I also know how much time it will take. So, in the process, I can manage my time. As much as I miss doing soaps, I opt to just take a break from it.”
Avid TV fans will surely miss her unforgettable performances in teleseryes.
“Oh, thank you if they do. I’ve been doing TV for a long time already, so they’re used to seeing me all the time. Looking back, I starred in Te Amo on GMA in 2004, my first female lead role. When I think about it, I realize I’ve already given a lot.”
“But honestly, my bank account wants me to. Of course, doing soap operas takes a long period, and you tape like three times a week. Imagine, you really earn,” she added in jest.
“But I believe there’s a perfect time for everything. I can’t divide myself now the way I used to. I’m just grateful for the projects that still come my way. I thank the Lord for providing me with work and for letting me continue doing things I’m passionate about while fulfilling my first job, which is being a homemaker,” Iza ends.

‘In a recent interview, GMA star Ashley Ortega admitted that she and Mavy Legaspi are currently playing beautiful music together.
“Yes, I think it’s pretty obvious, so there’s no point in denying it,” she stated.
Interestingly, when did their romance begin?
“Actually, Mavy and I have known each other for a long time, but it was only last year that we started going out. We were still young then. I knew him when he signed up with Sparkle, but we started hanging out in 2024. This was when he had already parted ways with Kyline (Alcantara).”
“It all started one night when we were with friends. That’s when I got to know him. Then, everything followed—he asked me out to lunch or dinner just to get to know each other better. Then, as they say, the rest is history!”
What are Mavy’s characteristics that endear him most to her?
“For one, he is very well-mannered, which I really love. He’s thoughtful and generous as well. I’m not the type of girl who wants to receive flowers or surprises. I prefer having a nice conversation.”
Has he introduced her formally to his family?
“Yes, he did. Actually, I’ve already worked with his parents (Zoren Legaspi and Carmina Villarroel) on separate projects, and they’re both nice. They’re very welcoming as well, as they invited me for dinner last Christmas,” Ashley said.
