P-pop sensation SB19 performed for The First Take, a popular Japanese channel with nearly 10 million subscribers. The quintet appeared on Episode 449 and sang their viral hit “Gento.”
The video, released on Monday night, has amassed almost a million views in less than 24 hours and instantly became part of the trending videos on the platform, debuting at No. 22 on the trending list.
Following the initial announcement, “HALA THE FIRST SB19” landed at No. 1, 2, and 35 on the trending lists in the Philippines, Japan, and worldwide, respectively.
“It was a true first take, so we were very nervous and overwhelmed, but it was fun and an amazing experience,” SB19 shared. “Above all, we are grateful for this opportunity and for being able to represent the Philippines by performing our song here. We are honored to showcase our music and culture to the world through The First Take.”
The Japanese YouTube channel invites top singers and artists from around the world to perform a song recorded in one take. Videos on The First Take are filmed in a studio, featuring shots of the performing artist with a microphone, set against a typically white background.
Previous music stars who have performed exclusively for the channel include Harry Styles, Avril Lavigne, and V from BTS, to name a few.
