The name of rapper-turned-entrepreneur Boss Toyo has become synonymous with finding unique and valuable items through his popular Pinoy Pawnstars series.
During an interview at Ginebra San Miguel’s World Gin Day event, Boss Toyo, known in real life as Jayson Luzadas, shared his broader vision that extends beyond mere profits. He revealed that his pawn shop business has generated P14 million over two years, yet his primary focus is on long-term goals and sustainability.
“As of now, I’m not looking for ROI [return on investment] at the moment kasi I’m looking long term, kung pwede nga maipasa ko sa mga anak ko,” Boss Toyo said.
He also emphasized his goal of establishing an “institute” that celebrates the value of memorabilia from Filipino celebrities and historical figures.
“‘Yun na yung ROI, pag na-establish ko isang institute na ako nagsimula magbigay halaga sa mga gamit ng sikat at kilalang tao dito sa Pilipinas,” he continued.
Among his collection, Boss Toyo revealed his favorite items, stating that some of them once belonged to the iconic rapper Francis Magalona.
“Of course, the timeless Francis Magalona items. Naturally, I’m the only one who has those. So, that’s one of my most cherished possessions,” Boss Toyo shared in Filipino.
These include clothes, jerseys, and photos, all acquired from the artist’s alleged former lover, Abegail Raite.
“The love letter is my favorite because it’s a handwritten letter from Francis Magalona that was kept hidden for a long time and nobody knew about it,” he added.
Speaking to Manila Standard Entertainment, Boss Toyo disclosed the items he is still hoping to acquire to add to his current collection.
“Like the Captain Barbell items from Edu Manzano and Herbert Bautista. Then there’s [Lastikman] from Vic Sotto. Those are things I want, and also anything from Ina Raymundo because she’s my idol,” stated Boss Toyo.
When asked about selling these prized possessions, Boss Toyo shared that he wouldn’t part with some, especially the truly rare pieces.
“For me, I definitely wouldn’t sell them yet… For me, it’s a bragging right. I’m the only one who has those. It’s also a bragging right for my shop because we’re the only ones who have them,” he stated.
Boss Toyo was recently named as one of the newest “Gin-is-In” ambassadors, alongside Attorney Oliver Moeller, and actress Mikee Quintos.
