Sunshine Cruz shines on her own terms

Actress Sunshine Cruz addressed netizens’ comments about her youthful looks after a recent runway stint at Bench Fashion Week. Cruz, who will be 47 this July, walked alongside Ina Raymundo in a black two-piece bikini.

“It’s amusing,” Cruz said in an interview with Manila Standard Entertainment. “Some think we’ve had surgery, but hard work is key. Ina works out almost twice a day, and I prioritize healthy eating and sleep.”

Cruz, the new face of Thiocell Glutathione Lozenges, emphasized the importance of self-care for overall well-being. “It’s not just about touch-ups or surgery,” she stated.

“I’ve always dreamed of being a Bench endorser, but it wasn’t until I was 46 that they took me. All I can say is that not all the touch-ups or plastic surgery can get you to love yourself. It’s all about hard work and taking care of yourself from the inside out, both mentally and physically. Sleep well, eat healthy, cut down on alcohol, and exercise,” the actress went on.

The conversation then shifted to her private life, where Cruz prefers to maintain a low profile following a highly publicized past relationship.

“I’d rather keep quiet, ibalato niyo na lang sa akin ito,” she said, opting not to discuss her current relationship status with ex-partner Macky Mathay. “I prioritize my privacy. I don’t owe anybody an explanation when it comes to my private life.”

Instead of talking about her romantic life, the actress talked about her children instead.

“Let’s just talk about my children, shall we? I have amazing children; they’re very smart and independent,” she said with a smile.

Cruz, a dedicated mother of three daughters, highlighted their academic achievements and her active role in their lives.

“My daughters are thriving,” she shared. “My eldest is a Dean’s Lister and First Honors student, while my second is also a Dean’s Lister.”

“When I separated, I focused on work and sought advice from friends who could guide me well. Before I knew it, my daughter Angelina was turning 23, so just savor the moments,” she said.

Looking forward to Mother’s Day, Cruz encouraged fellow single moms to cherish the day with their families. Reflecting on her own journey as a single parent, she advised, “Focus on work, surround yourself with good friends, and savor every moment.”

Cruz currently has no plans to return to acting, prioritizing her daughters’ well-being.

“I do receive offers but I cannot afford to be in lock-in tapings. I’d rather spend it with my children. But of course, I’m not closing any of my doors. If the project will allow me to go home after we pack up, then I can easily say yes. Right now I am focused more on endorsements,” she said.
