Philippine-bound ‘Vagabond 2’ to cast local actors

Businessman and politician Luis “Chavit” Singson displayed a playful demeanor when he met with the press at the opening of BBQ Chicken in Ayala Malls Feliz in Pasig. He arrived early, quipping, “I didn’t use the bus lane on Edsa today,” alluding to a recent incident where his convoy was flagged down for unauthorized use of the EDSA bus lane.

The former Ilocos Sur governor continued entertaining questions and confirmed that the Lee Seung Gi starrer Vagabond (2019) will film its sequel in the Philippines.

“The series that is very popular in Korea, Vagabond, will film its sequel here. They have finished some parts, and then the continuation will be filmed here in the Philippines,” Singson said in the vernacular.

“They are polishing the script first, so they have something to follow. Unlike other productions that tend to predict the story as they go, they don’t want that. They want the story to be complete first,” he carried on.

‘Vagabond’ is a South Korean series that follows the story of Cha Dal-gun (Lee Seung Gi),
a stuntman who gets involved in a plane crash investigation after his nephew’s death

Singson also teased that Filipino actors will participate in special roles, and he himself will be part of the production.

“They invited me to be one of the producers and the series will feature local actors. I can’t give any names yet, but we’ll soon know them when they start taping here probably in May,” Singson shared, adding that the team behind the series is looking at going around the country.

“They will shoot first in Ilocos then, similar to how Miss Universe showcased the Philippines, they’ll visit some tourist destinations in the country and will be featured in the story,” Singson said, referring to the Miss Universe pageant that he produced when the country hosted it in 2016.

Singson explained how the idea of filming in the Philippines started. He said that his company has been investing in South Korea, and Vagabond star Lee Seung Gi comes to the Philippines as his partner and celebrity ambassador for his company.

“Lee Seung Gi was happy to know that I’m one of the producers of the series. He’s my friend and has visited the Philippines a few times,” Singson said.

Vagabond Season 1 starred Lee Seung Gi with Bae Suzy and Shin Sung-rok. It aired on SBS TV for 16 episodes from September to November 2019, and later streamed internationally on Netflix.

The series follows Cha Dal-Geon (Lee Seung Gi), a stuntman aspiring to be an action star, who suspects foul play when his nephew’s flight crashes in Morocco. Go Hae-Ri (Bae Suzy), an NIS agent undercover at the Korean embassy in Morocco, joins him to investigate. Together, they uncover a complex conspiracy far beyond their expectations.
