Every bride’s worst fears come true in Neil LaBute’s heart-pounding action thriller Fear the Night, which premiered on Lionsgate Play on Feb. 2.

The film follows a violent home invasion at a secluded farmhouse nestled in the California hills, turning a celebratory bachelorette gathering into a harrowing fight for survival.

Maggie Q (known for her roles in Nikita, Designated Survivor, and Death of Me) stars as Tess, an alcoholic Iraq war veteran and the sister of the bride. When a local gang crashes the party, wielding deadly weapons like arrows, Tess takes charge, rallying the terrified group to confront their assailants and devise a plan to outsmart them.

Writer-director LaBute draws inspiration from classic thrillers like Deliverance and Straw Dogs, emphasizing the theme of ordinary people forced to confront violence. He explains, “This film is about survival and living, not about body count and blood and dying.”

Breaking from the typical portrayal of gun violence in movies, Maggie Q advocated for a more creative approach. In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, she expressed her desire to avoid promoting gun violence and opted for the attackers to use arrows and unconventional tools instead.

Fear the Night streams exclusively on Lionsgate Play on PLDT Home this February.
