The Philippines started the year on a good note with Louise Katrina “Pearl” Hung placing 3rd runner-up in Miss Global 2023, held recently in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Ashley Melendez of Puerto Rico won the title while the rest of her runners-up were Haylani Pearl Kuruppu of Samoa (1st), Chonnikarn Supittayaporn of Thailand (2nd), and Đoàn Thu Thủy of Vietnam (4th).

Hung, a 30-year-old native of Palawan, was known in her hometown as the “Millennial Entrepreneur” after achieving success in her own business at a very young age. Orphaned at the age of three, she became an outstanding Youth Spokesperson in her province and for the Department of Education, giving inspirational talks in various engagements to motivate and inspire the youth.

“I believe that growth is infinite and we are all infinite beings with amazing intelligence. If you try to be normal, you cannot get that wisdom in your life that you need to unleash your fullest potential,” Hung said when asked to interpret a quote from American poet Maya Angelou, “If you’re always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.”
