Singer Kier King, a former contestant from Idol Philippines Season 1, has secured a spot in the Top 6 finals of the esteemed Indonesian singing competition, D’ Academy Asia 6. The upcoming round of performances is scheduled for today.

Over the past two months, King has consistently held a top-1 position in Dangdut Academy Asia 6, a renowned talent show in Indonesia. This competition marks the sixth season of the Asian-level dangdut singing contest.

Supporters from the Philippines, Indonesia, and across Asia have rallied behind King as he continues his journey towards a potential victory. Music enthusiasts and fans are encouraged to stay tuned through Indosiar, a major Indonesian television network boasting 26.3 million YouTube subscribers. The competition streams live on Vidio, an Indonesia-based over-the-top video streaming service.

As one of the two representatives from the Philippines, King has consistently amazed both judges and audiences with his captivating performances and exceptional vocal prowess. He expresses his gratitude for achieving this feat, saying, “When I joined D’ Academy Asia 6, I didn’t have high expectations since Dangdut was a new genre for me. However, as the competition progressed, I grew to appreciate the beauty of Dangdut music. I’m thankful for the opportunity to learn and represent the Philippines on an international stage.”

In this new generation of Filipino talent, King has expanded his singing skills by embracing dangdut songs—a genre of Indonesian music that blends elements of Arab and Malay folk music. Acknowledging the challenge, King admits, “Learning dangdut songs and cengkok hasn’t been easy for me. Coming from a pop R&B background and influenced by Western music, the shift to Indonesia’s style has been quite a transition.”

Terimaksih banyak aku mencintaimu!” He concludes, “I hope you’ll never tire of supporting me.”

In the upcoming rounds of Dangdut Academy, King will compete against fellow Filipino contender Lovely Restituto and other exceptionally talented singers from Indonesia and Brunei.
