Elections are a relevant event in any country’s history. During this time, the public demands constant updates on the status of the elections and the candidates. The task then falls to journalists who sometimes risk life and limb just to get the story told.

GMA News pillar and multi-awarded journalist Mike Enriquez

Over the years, several news agencies and personalities have made themselves known for their credibility, professionalism, and dedication to public service.

Luckily, GMA News pillar and multi-awarded broadcast journalist Mike Enriquez returns on-screen and on-air in time for the network’s comprehensive coverage of the 2022 elections.

It was in December 2021 when GMA Network announced that Enriquez was taking a  leave of absence to undergo a medical procedure that required hospital confinement and a minimum of three months isolation period.

“‘Yong pinagdaanan ko medyo mahirap because aside from the procedure itself, the kidney transplant, mayroong three months mandatory isolation period for transplant patients. The purpose of that is to avoid rejection and infection kasi ‘yong mga kidney transplant patients immuno-compromised sila,” Enriquez said during an online media conference.

He added that his comorbidities, diabetes, and age also added to his struggles at the time. Yet despite these, he maintains that it’s important to never lose faith, and a person always needs two things when undergoing tough times: prayer and humor. Without these, Mike admitted that his experience would be more arduous.

On Monday (March 28), Enriquez returned as one of the anchors of GMA’s flagship newscast 24 Oras with fellow co-stars Mel Tiangco and Vicky Morales.

His return also came at an opportune moment. In less than 60 days, the people of the Philippines will elect its next set of leaders, and GMA Network is prepared to deliver the most comprehensive, and credible, according to Enriquez, election coverage across all platforms through Eleksyon 2022.

“In God’s perfect time, He willed that I return to work on the air now that kailangan na kailangan,” he said.

Presently, GMA Network’s preparations for the coverage of the 2022 elections are going full blast.

“Everybody now is, daily, working hard in preparing for the elections. I’m confident that it will be a good coverage simply because we have been preparing for it well in advance,” Enriquez said.

He is again expected to play a big part in the Eleksyon 2022: The GMA News and Public Affairs’ Election Coverage on May 9 together with fellow GMA News pillars Tiangco, Morales, Arnold Clavio, Howie Severino, and Jessica Soho.

Aside from his television presence, Enriquez will also return to his regular programs on GMA’s flagship AM radio station Super Radyo DZBB 594, which is simultaneously broadcast on GTV via Dobol B TV.

Joining Enriquez is Joel Reyes Zobel on Super Balita sa Umaga at 7:00 a.m.to deliver the most relevant stories and latest news updates for the day.

From 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., Enriquez further provides the public with more information about the issues at hand by interviewing key personalities on Saksi sa Dobol B.

Besides his on-screen and on-air duties, Enriquez also continues to serve as RGMA Network Inc. President and GMA Network’s Consultant for Operations, who leads all the Super Radyo and Barangay FM stations across the country.
