Digong’s unfinished business

"The President shows no signs of slowing down."

If President Duterte’s trip to Jolo, Sulu is any indication, it shows he has no intention of slowing down on his executive tasks.

He had repeatedly said he wants to take care of unfinished business with less than two years left in office, in spite of those who wish he were unwell.

Manong Digong yet again created a stir talking about his Barrett’s esophagus possibly developing into stage 1 cancer.

Although there is nothing new about it at all, it didn’t fail to elicit calls for full disclosure of his health records. There were also calls for his resignation from the yellow opposition.

Adding fuel to the fire was the news on the sudden resignation of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe due to failing health which the President’s critics said was a great example of a friend that he must emulate.

Unfortunately for the President’s haters, no surprise resignation took place in MalacaÅ„ang.

Pinasakay lang pala sila ni Manong Digong.

The President’s visit to the injured soldiers and policemen in Jolo, Sulu, following the twin suicide bombings there, killing at least 17 people and wounding 75 others, showed his compassion for soldiers and victims of terrorism.

I will not be surprised if Sulu, known as the hotbed of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG), turns into a howling wilderness for these godless terrorists who have taunted the government for too long and claimed too many innocent lives.

AFP special forces and the PNP Special Action Force troops have been sent to Sulu.

The victims of the bombings at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral and last week’s suicide bombing in Jolo, and countless of previous bomb attacks cry for justice.

There are reports that foreign nationals, particularly Indonesian militants, were involved in the suicide bombing attacks, which is a cause of alarm to the Filipino people.

We fully support the government and the Armed Forces all-out war against ASG and other local followers of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

We want these demons in Sulu crushed by the AFP as it did the Maute and the ASG in Marawi City.

We, at the Anti-Crime and Terrorism thru Community Involvement and Support Party-list (ACT-CIS Party-list), enjoin the Filipino nation to cooperate and assist the authorities in fighting terrorism.

We need to work hand in hand to confront this faceless treachery of terrorism that can be likened to the dreaded coronavirus that is invisible to the naked eye.

This is as deadly as the illegal drugs menace and as distressful to the people as the shameless corruption at PhilHealth.

These are but a few of the serious concerns that the President confronts with 21 months left in his term not to mention putting impetus to the country’s recovery from the pandemic crisis and the escalation between the United States and China.

Manong Digong is clearly not showing any sign of slowing down in tackling his unfinished business.

As he has promised, he would give his all to his very last day in office even if it would mean one less drug dealer on the street, one less terrorist making an IED, and one less greedy mafioso at PhilHealth.

What are we, Juan dela Cruzes, going to do for our part to bring about change once and for all?

Needless to say, Manong Digong’s unfinished business is our own business.
