A German restaurant, in a stunt, to encourage social distancing and as an appetizer upon its reopening, gave its diners hats with pool noodles.

New normal dining, the German way

Cafe & Konditorei Rothe in Schwerin, Germany reopened last week after the government started to ease some restrictions after protocols were imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The restaurant posted a photo of its diners on Facebook, showing them in straw hats with colorful pool noodles pointing in three different directions to encourage social distancing from all sides.

“In these difficult times it’s a pleasure to make others smile,” the New York Post quoted restaurant owner Jacqueline Rothe as saying.

Last week, Chancellor Angela Merkel announced shops could reopen and students could return to school, but the government is still recommending the use of face masks and social distancing.

The photo appears to underline efforts of the government to continue with the strategy to prevent COVID-19 from spreading among customers, employees, and students.
